Types of Golf Competitions

  1. Stroke Play
    • Stroke play is the most common form of golf, where players count their total strokes over the entire course, and the player with the fewest strokes wins.
  2. Match Play
    • In match play, players compete to win each hole rather than counting total strokes. The player who wins the most holes wins the match.
  3. Four-Ball
    • In this format, each team has two players who complete each hole individually, with the best score among the teammates counting for the team’s score. Commonly used in team events.
  4. Foursomes
    • In foursomes, two players on each team alternate shots to complete each hole with the fewest strokes possible. This format emphasizes teamwork and is popular in team competitions.
  5. Stableford
    • Players earn points based on their performance on each hole (e.g., birdie = 2 points, par = 0 points, bogey = -1 point). The player with the highest points wins.
